My new craft ……

COFFEE PODS…..

I have some really great friends and family, who have helped me more than they’ll ever know through the past couple of years. But my biggest surprise during this time was that my cousin came for a month in the Autumn of 2019. She is my birthday twin albeit quite a few years younger than myself. We had been ‘in touch’ over the years, but not really close, until that Autumn. I think the term ‘kindred spirits’ apply. We’re both pretty obsessive about things, we both require time on our own, and we both have been slightly out of step with our families. We both had lived abroad for a long time and although she and her family are back in the States, our world view has been greatly influenced by this.

She helped reintroduce me to the joy of knitting, which I hadn’t done for some time…. she makes the move beautiful shawls, has dyed her own wool, and has an eye for the quirky and unique….

But the thing that most surprised me was a love/need for coffee….. I’d never met anyone who when ordering requested 5+ shots…. Per cup…. And she was really into nespresso…

The first morning she was there I made a pot of coffee… which was ok.. and the beans were yummy, but the thing she remarked on was the aroma in the house… as using pods doesn’t really give this….

I had never used pods…. But I took the plunge and bought a small coffee maker and she began my ‘education’ into coffee options…

The thing I noticed first was how pretty the colours were and I had no intention of just shipping them back to Nespresso for recycling… and except for the coffee grounds… which have a place in my garden… I use the whole pod when creating these flowers.

I was hooked….. and although I don’t have the larger pod machine… I even bought several options of these as the pods were just …well, gorgeous… (and I figured out my very small press pot is just about the right size for 1 pod of grounds… and yes, I know I don’t get exactly the same result but it still tastes yummy.)

So, I started making flowers. The wreath in my logo has flowers with lights added. It hangs in my bedroom, and I love the light it gives.

You don’t need special equipment to make these… scissors, glue gun and a small tool to punch a hole. In the months that follow I’ll be adding links to how I made these flowers, but if you’re curious now, they can be found on my YouTube channel…. Gran_Strands
